If you were previously a member but have left the institution or your membership has lapsed, then we welcome you to re-join or re-activate your membership.

Lapsed membership

If your membership lapsed less than 2 years ago simply pay this year’s subscription fees by contacting the membership team.

If your membership lapsed more than 2 years ago then firstly contact IRO to see if your membership account is still active, if it is then you will have to pay this years subscription fees. Is anything else required?

If your account is not active then you will need to re-join. Please see below.

Re-joining

Re-join by following these steps:

Step 1: Apply for entry level membership by completing the online application form.

Step 2: Pay your entry level subscription fee (if applicable).

Step 3: The membership team will then review and approve your application.

Re-joining at a higher level of membership

If you previously held a higher level of membership (Associate, Member or Fellow), for a limited time we are accepting applications to re-join at the membership level that you left us at. (Usually, you would need to re-apply by the normal upgrading pathways).

How to re-join at my old membership level:

Step 1: Apply for entry level membership by completing the online application form

Step 2: Pay the entry level subscription fee (if applicable).

Step 3: Evidence your previous membership level by showing us your old membership certificate or correspondence. If you have neither of these then please get in touch directly with the membership team on membership@railwayoperators.co.uk

Step 4: Pay any outstanding fees applicable to your upgraded level of membership plus the upgrade administration fee of £27.
