The System Operator was launched last year to ‘plan changes to the GB railway system so that the needs of passengers and freight customers are balanced to support economic growth’. Its vision is to become the recognised expert trusted by decision makers to plan the GB railways.
Rupert Walker, Strategy & Planning Director (South) at Network Rail’s System Operator will explain the role of the System Operator and how it fits within the wider industry. He’ll outline some of the challenges faced by the railway in the south and how these are being resolved currently with developments such as Thameslink and Crossrail, and how they might be addressed in future with the Digital Railway, programmes including the Brighton Main Line upgrade, and more local projects like Clapham Junction redevelopment. He’ll explain the reasons why Network Rail is seeking third party involvement in some of these exciting schemes.
We welcome all IRO members, anyone that works in the railway industry (or is looking to join), and anyone interested in becoming a member of the IRO. Refreshments will be available from 17.45 and the event will be followed by our popular networking session giving you the opportunity to meet fellow railway industry professionals.
