The North East Area Council is pleased to announce a visit to the Hitachi Rail Europe rolling stock assembly plant in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, where we will be given a tour of the facilities.
The new manufacturing and assembly plant in Newton Aycliffe was built to support the Intercity Express Programme and future Hitachi Rail projects. Over 100 Class 800, 801 & 802 trains are being built at the Newton Aycliffe site, to run on the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines. The majority of the 70 Class 385 EMUs for ScotRail are also being built at Newton Aycliffe.
This visit will be of particular relevance to anybody interested in the latest developments in new train technology, especially those who are studying on one of the IRO courses.
The visit will end at approx 18:30 hrs. It will not be possible to provide refreshments on this occasion; therefore you may wish to bring something with you.
We expect this visit to be very popular, so please register as soon as possible. If the visit is over-subscribed we will operate a draw, and preference will also be given to members who were not on the previous North East Council visit to Newton Aycliffe. If a delegate subsequently cannot attend, it is essential that they notify the organiser; late advice or failure to notify may reduce eligibility for subsequent events. Further details will be given to those who have been allocated a place.
Travel on 15:40 train from Darlington to Heighington, then approx ½ mile walk to the factory; or meet at the factory at 16:20
Please use the booking form below to book a place. Please note you will need to be logged on to the IRO website. If you do not know your username or password please contact the Stafford office and a member of the team will be able to help you. Call 03333 440523 or email email@example.com.
